I choose the 60s or 70s as there were computer games already.
At least for the magazine...

For a competition other decades are surely interesting too.

Wow this thread really got derailed.  I thought it was just about getting a new Syntaxbomb Magazine.  Surely content is up to whoever contributes?

Following in the footsteps of our 1st magazine you are spot on. The idea is to submit content on whatever you want ( providing it's related ).

For anyone who missed it or to get a better idea of things to submit then click this magical link. Viewing and downloads of the magazine are located at the bottom of the first thread.

I know it's early to be talking about a magazine for Christmas 2021 :)) but for those who want to contribute then no harm in making a start now / soon and we'll get some great content built up. Of course it doesn't have to have a festive theme but if it does then that's fine too.

I was supposed to provide my article on the TI-99/4A computer for our 1st magazine but things didn't go to plan. However, I 100% will be this year, I promise iWasAdam ;D
Mac Studio M1 Max ( 10 core CPU - 24 core GPU ), 32GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD,
Beelink SER7 Mini Gaming PC, Ryzen 7 7840HS 8-Core 16-Thread 5.1GHz Processor, 32G DDR5 RAM 1T PCIe 4.0 SSD
MSI MEG 342C 34" QD-OLED Monitor

Until the next time.

Ah yes - the Ti. Missing ;D

personally i like the era end of 1800, beginning of 1900, because of the new discoveries / technologies with electricity / electromagnetism / magnetism, and the associated paradigms, and also a lot of discussions / experiments about "mental science" (related to thoughts and their effects on the mental / occult world)

50s and 60s of 20th century are "exploration into space" ... and begin of computer era. So I think it would fit well into a "magazine" theme (which is more related to that thread here). Albeit it might be even a cool idea ... to (if IWasAdam would like to) ... to have 2 magazines.
A "Nato/US/..." and and "Soviet Union" version.

If people would be able to get convinced to create some "satiric" games for either the sites (patriotic "style") ... this could be kind of interesting - especially if some games are "similar" (with just the villains being ... different - and the technics used too).

Of course it would also allow for "cute" games (Tiny Masha collecting flowers in the forest, John the Farmer harvesting corn fields ...). But yeah, Having Computer boot screens with an Eagle or the Hammer+Sickle ... could be quite "unique" for competitions.

So who do we send content to.
iWasAdam is our resident magazine wizard ;D and has luckily agreed to design this years one \o/

It'll be for our Christmas magazine #2 so there's no panic just yet. But no harm in firing things across to him if complete. Note - ONLY send to iWasAdam and no one else so it's all fresh content when the magazine is complete :)

Content  ?

The content allowed, will it be articles only, or will project code be allowed (content uploader choice).  I for one program in Torque3D, Godot, and 3D Gamestudio.

programs are an issue. as there is no real way to check if the printed code is correct. so my thought on that would be not to have code itself. concepts, pseudo code - even simple code would be fine - but programme code hmm

RemiD

in the previous magazine, i have described a procedure (AStar) with english words, this is more helpful than code in a specific programming langage, imo. more people can understand it...

iWasAdam

yep that's the best way to do it. I might do a follow up on djikstra maps this time around

Amanda Dearheart

That would be fine then.
