Well there are already 159 members here.  I'm sure a lot lurk, rather than post - but it's a good start never-the-less.

Community based projects have rarely worked - but that's a completely different ball game.

I noticed that site has a legit SSL certificate, but that you don't enforce it. The YouTube videos won't load up on it because they're being loaded over HTTP. Something to look into.

I will be forcing the site to SSL, I just keep forgetting :P - The youtube videos will work in HTTPS providing you add them like so :

and not just

The problem isn't me, it's other people who have put them in. It just ends up rendering a large blank area of space. Maybe strip the http/https from the beginning or the URL and just replace it with the mimic current protocol thing by using "//" at the beginning of the URL like so, "//www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyz" Or force HTTPS for all videos.

Keep up the work.

On the Home page the last 10 topics are listed, but the category the topic is from is listed on the next line (square brackets).

It would be clearer if 1 topic per line was used (category follows topic on the same line).

I could make it all one line but it may look a bit messy. Also it uses two lines anyway, one for the username and the other for the date.  I'll make it one line and see what it looks like.

* EDIT * - Made it more compact but I'm not sure if I like it.

Well the topic and category are quite short, so I doubt it.

Do we actually need the category at all?  Or in deed the date, because if you haven't read a thread then it is highlighted in bright yellow, and the date is given when you click on the link to reveal the thread.

I am sure that I do not like it.

It has too much whitespace on the other half of the "area". Also it reads as if the thread X was "by author" instead of "last reply by author".

Just use the current approach

title                          |  Date
category                   |  user

(odd both lines use the same spacing but date/user are not properly aligned next under each other.)

As the top is the most important aspect: title of the thread and date of the last post.

For wide screen resolutions you could even do a

very very long title gets truncated/"ellipsed" [..] |  Category       |   date by author

@ Steve
Of course we need the date, as nobody will remember all "last posters" to recognize on the front-page if a post contains a new reply. I did not experience varying color for unread topics on the front page.

When users do not have avatars it might look a bit odd. Maybe adding a bit of "minimum height" could help?

I've put it back to how it was. It's such a minor thing I don't think it's worth faffing about :P - Perhaps the category could go but I like to see the date because you may reply at 18:00 and again at just a second ago but I would assume it's the same post ( without going to the actual forums to look )

There are a few things with the gallery plugin that could do with tidying up. Not super massive urgent right now though :)

This forum is cool 8), it reminds me of the blitz3d fr forum, but without the "karma" bs...

If you want to keep a community which gives a chance to all members and avoid "banding" of some members against others members, i highly suggest to never add a rating functionality (+1 -1) to rate a post or a member... It can have bad consequences... A best approach imo is to remove the posts which are inappropriate and warn the member to not post such things... Then we forget the useless nonsense, and we move on... (but of course you do what you want !)

Naughty Alien

..so far this place was very very civilized, even some rather hot topics were touched... ;D

I'd be rated a billion anyway because I'm soooooooooo greeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttttt!!!
