Eevee is not for games but for realtime rendering.
For "rendering" you might want to have some kind of "reproduceable results".

Think of UE5 creating JPEG files while renderers create TIFF/PNG (or RAW).

UE5 seems to do some crunching of data ... think this is something "animations" could benefit of - I mean efficiently reusing stuff of previous frames etc.

Unity is for games and that doesn't stop people from using it to render short films.

I didn't say Eevee is for games, read my post again. I called it a "real-time engine". It shows graphics rendered with the GPU. Under this criteria, it and Unity and Unreal are the same.

I did not say you said it ... read my post again.

Evee is not for games but for realtime rendering and also written in a way that you can manipulate the model data and setup (textures etc) pretty easily.
UE5 is surely "rendering" (to the screen too) but to allow certain effects they do compromises. Compromises Eevee has here and there too - but tries to get rid of them.

Nonetheless all these "realtime renderers" are cheating (I assume, am not knowing) which is why for "final renders" you for now will still use classic approaches (like Blender's Cycles, YafaRay... ).
Even if GPUs now do "raytracing" for realtime they still simplify stuff or need to mark "little errors" as acceptible.

When I initially seen the link posted....I also just started watching 'Ready Player 1' again.... 10 seconds into demo, turned telly off and I was captivated.

What amazing times we live in.  The graphics were stupendously good. Yeah, some games may not have the 'gameplay' to match such awesome graphics.

I'm still amazed about what can be done with Blender, the Blitz3D export library and Blitz3D. Yeah, I know, I sound like a fan boy - and I've more than dipped my toe into AGK Studio thanks to the latest competition.

We are creeping towards ready player one.... okay, more like jogging and turning into a sprint.

Interesting times to be a game making mogul company when companies can give away their development stuff for free, unless yo break 6 figure revenue.  Wow, just wow.  :o

Not from Unreal / Epic, but a next-gen demo from NVIDIA RTX:

one glaring things wrong is the marble shadow. it's solid with no gradual falloff.

a real (even ray traced) marble would be full of caustics, an example:

That's incredible too - the ultimate version of Marble Madness...But somehow for a lot of games this kind of realism is too real.  You've just put me in the real world, rather than an escapist game world.  Very pretty, but very dull.

The target market for this stuff is about the top 0.01% of creators.  Most dev teams are not capable of this level no matter what tools you give them.

Fair do's, it wouldn't get much publicity if they tried promoting it with another shitty Flappybird clone, but it'd be nice if they aimed for something in the middle.

I agree, for these types of projects then only talented large teams would be able to make use of the engine.

Yes it certainly was made to turn some heads, but how large is even the download?  And the minimum size of exe you can produce when you've produced a small game?  Absolutely massive.  That's the problem for a small dev, these large engines don't scale well if you produce a simple 3D or 2D Game.

The marble also gets sprayed with color spray (think so) and travels through water color pods ... should smear here and there.

And yes, I would have thought that they paid attention to these details as this would create the "wow ...they even took care of XYZ" effect.
