llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story will be available on Steam/Switch etc.

Interviews and games written by Jeff Minter are included - including a new GridRunner:Remastered.

I've pre-ordered on Switch, the same 'Atari 50' guys produced a great product so I'm expecting this to be equally high quality.

Never really saw the appeal to his games, ever since I first received Gridrunner as a gift for the Vic 20.
I just found his games obnoxiously loud with annoying sounds and too much flashing.

Horses for courses I suppose.

Why bother adding to this thread then? You can just ignore something you're not into you know.  ::)

Tempest 4000 was the last game I bought of his, it's hypnotic and a great blast. On the Oled Switch screen or on a big screen it looks amazing.

Don't get your panties in a twist, it's called an opinion.  If you don't want opinions/replies then either do not post in a public forum or state that the topic is closed for discussion and everyone can walk on.

When somebody is looking forward to a game or games, and you basically just come in telling them they can't stand the author's games, no positives just hate his stuff, why even do that? Pretty rude I think.

Yes I'm sure people just love you giving your opinion in that very blunt way.

I'm sorry that's what you got from my participation.

I knew I should have gone with how overrated I think Jeff Minters games are.

This is the General Discussion area, right?
- "The place to chit-chat about anything, spout off, ask pointless questions, etc."

Did I post in the wrong sub-forum again?

Wait, Is this the Snowflake sub-forum?

You do know about Father Christmas and the Easter bunny :-X

I'm sure you tell kids all the time they don't exist!...I'm just giving my opinion you say in response to angry parents pmsl.   :))

If somebody says they like a band (they might not like every single album) and you say oh that album was good, not fussed on the others though, then fair enough. Somebody says they like a band and you say why? They're shit! That's what you call being rude, best just to nod and not say anything.

Not all Jeff Minters games are classics, but I take great offence at your suggestion that Gridrunner on the Vic 20 wasn't up to much. I loved that game so much that I even did a remake in the last competition.

P.S. You two want handbags to whack each other around with? Everyone has opinions, and you did come in very negative on something another poster was obviously very excited about, STos. Sure, if you have an opinion, then you've got every right to say it. But if your opinion is being challenged then don't just accuse them of having panties in a twist, or stuff like that. That would irk me too. Let's face it, your opinion on Jeff Minters game is likely a minority. Especially somewhere like this place.

There's only a couple of Jeff Minters game I liked. Though I think all of his games must have been influenced by participating in the consumption of special mushrooms.

llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story .. Got stoned, wrote games, became a cult icon, the end :)) Looking forward to the more fleshed out story. Always interesting to hear stuff from the good'ol'days.

Definitely.

Now it's available I'm looking through everything. Like the 'Atari 50' project they produced it's a video game compilation but also an interactive documentary about the history of the time which makes it more interesting than a menu of games with Jeff Minter content.

I picked it up on PS5 and worked through the first two of the four chapters. Some of the games really haven't aged well, and the new gridrunner has been released previously, and purchased by me then, so it's probably more expensive than I would have paid in hindsight. I've yet to try the light show tools he did, though, so that could be interesting.

I don't think it's a definitive collection of all his games on the collection, either. The painter game he bought out for the 8k Vic 20 wasn't on there, that I could see. Traz, or trax, or something it was called. Nor the pocket PC version of Gridrunner, which was rather impressive. I'd also have loved to see Space Ox - a game he put on IOS a few years back - but no such luck. i loved that game but Jeff just dumped mobile pretty quickly when he realised it was saturated, and he wasn't going to make the money he expected from it.

If you're looking for his newer games from the playstation era, then you won't find them here. This is strictly his older stuff. If you want his 3d maze on the ZX81, however, then you are in luck. I gave that at least two minutes when I tried it ;)

What I like about his games is that they are different. I especially enjoyed the mutant camel stuff.
