You would not notice this normally but I just droped about 55 apps on itch.io , after a short time I got 1 download after i uploaded every app, now it took time to upload each app , but  I always got a DL after a few minites, and then I watched as I got DL on apps that normally dont get any DLs. then I kept getting the DLs over two days upto 3 or 4 now minimum.

I also did not advertise my apps, so norm on itch I get the itch views but i normally get a ratio of 10 views to one DL, at the moment Im getting 1 DL to 2 views. I looked at the view links and thier mostly itch.io , now I know my outlandish apps dont generate this kind of attension

you need proper stats to play where to boost interest.   https://l8rpress.itch.io/

could it be bots like search engines ect?

when I had a server years ago, bot used to infect my files, so i would say bots sounds bad, im just glad itch is big enough to fight malware

On my Itch I can go and see where I am getting all my views from and I quite often see visits from sites like

Google
Bing
search.yahoo

and a few really obscure search engines like

duckduckgo
Escosia

and I really doubt that people are using duckduckgo to search for ways to create psuedo 3D dungeon image sets so it makes more sense its a search engine bot

my items are paid items so they would not have access to the download button but if your items are free they may trigger a download while they are scanning the page.

I found the cause! I put text files on the DL page for credits and tagged them for android linux mac and Windows, so the bots were collecting android app . I know this because I got android hits and the only thing I had android was the text files.

it is not obscure ... it is nice to have (I only use it for the !gi, !g, ... shortcuts as the search results often are not what I ... would consider as best matches).

Wow looks like it is quite popular in some places... But I had never heard of it before my itch page was putting up view results
Interesting though, thanks for posting the image.
