Quote from: Qube on December 12, 2024, 03:18:57Not exactly working on a game at the moment but actively working hard on my 4th framework for AGK. Main reason for doing this is I'm creating a bunch of shaders to up the 2D side like lights, normals, shadows, glow, general effects, etc. Thanks to ChatGPT and learning slowly.
what do you mean by that ? you ask ChatGPT to explain concepts about what you want to achieve in 2d or 3d ?

(i only use ChatGPT to learn spanish and talk about news in spanish)
I fed ChatGPT the full text from the help file for AGK shaders. From there I went on to do simple basic shaders and corrected ChatGPT as to the silly errors like using 'texture0' as the main texture, 'agk_time' instead of it choosing 'time', resolutions, normalizing etc etc. Took quite a bit of trial and error but it's trained enough to whip up shader code for AGK. It's not a magic solution and often requires manual fixing or pushing in the right direction.

Overall it's been an invaluable help with getting the 2D shaders I wanted to add to AGK.

It was able to write a couple of simple shaders for me, chromatic abberation and noise, but it got lost in the reeds quickly when I asked it to expand on them lol

so ChatGPT managed to learn how to code AGK shaders by reading the AGK documentation ?
really ?

so in theory you could give ChatGPT the full AGK documentation and he could code a game or at least a procedure ?
if yes, that's interesting...

It's not like having a genius coder at your fingertips but more of a excellent 'point you in the right direction' assistant. Whilst sometimes it gets things spot on, others it requires more prompting and explaining rules to get it right. Also there's you learning from the various code bits it's chucked out and figure out how it should be working.

I use ChatGPT and also Github CoPilot for Visual Studio and both are great as helpful assistants.

Once upon a time, the on running joke, usually when someone new to game programming appeared, and they would would ask how you would make/show them how to make, a World of Warcraft game... This was the usual reply:-

CreateMMORPG()
:D

Or along them lines... But as the years go by with certain tools and what not, it certainly is a lot easier now, then back then. And I'll be honest, given a bit more time, it will be a thing. At the minute, these things are great resources, excellent and set you on the path you want to take, in the future, it'll simply be bosh... There you go!

That's if you ask me like, but then, if we went on predictions that the past had for todays reality, I'm supposed to be going to the shop on a hover board or in a flying car... And that never happened... Which is TOTALLY disappointing! :D

this is really interesting, thanks for the info !

sometimes i have asked questions on a forum for some problem and nobody had the understanding or the will to answer. maybe this can help me in some cases.

Yeah, just started learning 6502 assembly language with the intention of making a game for the Beeb.

I suspect the coding part is going to be a lot harder than I've imagined over the years.

The solitaire game looks quite polished (yet it contains the old school effects you/we all used a lot in the past, fading, scaling ... dunno if new "effects" could spice up things or if customers just expect these from their beloved solitaire games).

The jigsaw -- I am not sure who was involved about the jigsaw puzzle stuff we talked about many months ago ... and where to place the holes and the pins ... and the overall shape of puzzle pieces. For me I really "dislike" these regular shaped ones which just involve different "hole or pin" setups. The video does only expose variations in the hole and pin shape itself but not piece variations. I hope you add it somewhen (in a sequal?) as it imho adds a lot to the "atmosphere" (not looking like some computer application with "simple cut shapes").

Anyways - just my opinion of course :)

@therevills They look lovely and polished 8) Hope they do well for you. Do they usually sell well and make enough money to cover costs and stuff?

I've pretty much finished the game I was working on when i started this thread. It's just got some place holder stuff in , and really needs a bit more polishing before I feel I can put it out there. Hopefully shouldn't take too long now.

Another vic 20 classic remake ticked off my list :)

It's on my TODO list to add more shapes instead of just squares and go back to the peg positions, I did try it before but due to the "tiny" pieces the it never looked right.

Thanks Qube, they sell okay and do cover costs, but you can tell  he market has changed over the years.

Hewwwww stinky, long time no see... Setting up the BBQ again this year for your Christmas dinner... Knob head! :D ;) hehehe

Game looks well like!

Yeah, got to roll with the times, see, what you did is release a game that a) Is polished, completely finished and works when people buy it and b) Doesnt try to scam people with infectious manipulative aspects!

Tut tut... Must try harder!

Im trying to implement Bullets not as easy as i thought :-[

I get the idea i need a Type and Tlist. So i can add bullets and delete bullets. I think i need to check time to see if i can release a bullet, but i also only want a max of 4 bullets at a time!? ???

Things to track x,y for each bullet, when to destroy bullet, has it hit anything!

I suppose once you accomplished this for the first time you can build on it.
