Winners, PM me your PayPal address and I'll magic over your winnings :)

Brakes on the above... The prize pot although carried over from the last competition did not increase and due to varying factors I wasn't sure what I could realistically guarantee it would be. So this competition does not have any monetary prize but to make up for this the next one will.

For our next competition the guaranteed prize fund will be £1000 ;D

Comments about the games ( if sent with voting ) :

Purple Virus
------------
Liked the graphics style. Options screen especially.

No option to redefine keys so was unable to actually play the game properly with cursor keys and ctrl because it sent the window off screen whenever I used them. My problem because I played on a Mac via Parallels, I know. I mention it because its a good idea to have key redefining options regardless of scenarios like this.

Nice music choice.

Got error message "failed to create instance in main.agc at line 11953" message on level 2.

Game was very well presented but I didn't find it played as well as his previous games.

3rd place for this one.

Very simple little shooting game.

No idea how to operate shields as the game doesn't tell you.

Sound effects are grating.

Crashed on my Windows emulation after 2nd go on title screen when clicked off to edit this document. Again, likely just a hang up of emulation once again but I got no other way to play the games at present if they're only on Windows.

VShooter
--------
Like the 3d work.

Game is very boring very quickly. More a technical demo to me than a proper game.

Small window at high resolutions. Needs full screen option or scaling.

No sound at all.

Gun firing effect isn't very visually obvious. At close proximity to something you shoot then you can't see it at all.

Virux
-----
Keyboard definition and Gamepad option a big plus.

Nice simple title screen attract mode.

Very topical theme. I love how it's integrated with lockdown, masks, enforcement etc.

It's got pacman at its root but it's been done right and obviously quite well designed with the different enemy types and how they work.

Presentation and all the options a game needs are here which makes the game a lot more polished than  some of the other entries.

This would have been my winner but for Wuhan gang being so good.

Wuhan Gang
----------
Presentation, graphics style, music and sound are all spot-on with this game.

The interactive tutorial for the first level is frankly excellent and works so well for introducing us to the game. I'd have been stuck without it.

I found it a bit tough getting around but that's because I suck at platform games and tend to get my fingers in a muddle trying to jump, move and shoot at the same time etc.

Love the idle mode animations. Shoot in the air randomly, do a bit of a jig, yawn and probably a couple of others. I was waiting for him to twirl his gun.

Level selection and options all being done by moving your char around the title screen works so well here. As well as the tutorial this gets you into the game so well. Genius.

Great fun working your way round the levels working out what you have to do. There's elements of both tiny tales in this game, I think. Mainly because the small graphics and interacting with lots of stuff on a static screen and the pixel madness that gibbage had on a platform game back in the day.

This game didn't just win the competition for me. It blew the others out of the water in all honesty. The clear winner in my opinion.

STEVIE G

Virux
Great pacman themed game.  I liked the implementation of the mask/spray etc..  Simple but cute graphics /characters.  Would have benefited from some in-game music and a full screen option.  The game I enjoyed the most.

Purple Virus
Very polished looking.  Great splash and instruction screens and nice graphics throughout.  Cool music.  It's not really the genre of games I go for so was probably playing it wrong.  I just hit left ctrl and killed everything so didn't make much use of the push mechanic as it wasn't clear why I needed it.

Virus
Clearly pulled together quickly but while simple it was a fun timewaster.  I was expecting asteroids style control but was pleasantly surprised by the Time Pilot/Sinistar style.  The sound was far too loud - the first couple of shots nearly blew my ear drums!!  :))

V Shooter
I really wanted to like this but even after reading the readme - I had no idea what I was doing :(  It would have benefited from some form of tutorial.  Option to reverse mouse Y axis would have been nice as would a target reticule and a full screen option.  I could barely hear the sound fx.

Semi important post

Congratulations to our winners and to all those who were able to finish their games for the competition.

It's been funny times recently and without going into personal details I wasn't sure how financially things were going to pan out due to another business / colleagues trying to steal my work / contracts. To cut a long story short the traitors lost heavily.

Thus we're going to have a little fun for the next game comp. In case you've not read through the 1st post :

"The prize pot although carried over from the last competition did not increase and due to varying factors I wasn't sure what I could realistically guarantee it would be. So this competition does not have any monetary prize but to make up for this the next one will.

Of course if any of our winners want the share of the prize fund for this comp sent over to them now then please let me know and I'll sort that out ASAP.

So our next comp will hold a prize fund of £1000 and I really hope we'll have a good load of entries as the theme will be super easy to meet so no excuses.

Once again, congratulations to all the entrants of this game comp and keep those fingers ready to get tapping for the upcoming one ;D

p.s. I'm sure the other game entrants won't mind if I give a standing ovation to STEVIE G for his incredible game and I believe our first to get 100% of 1st place votes. I've put on my evil face mask and say "I will see you in the next comp, muhahaha" :))

@Qube :
thanks for the test / comments

all your critics / suggestions are reasonable, but i prefered to submit a 'almost finished' game than nothing.

there are (homemade) sounds in the game but it seems that the gain (db) of my sounds is too low...

i have already increased the gain of my sounds, and added a way to increase/decrease the volume in-game, and a step by step help on how to play in-game, and notifications in-game, but after the end of the competition...

anyway this was fun to participate. this pushed me to code a little game again :)

chalky:
I realise it doesn't affect the outcome, but if Stevie got 100% of 1st place votes does that mean Scaremonger didn't get one after all?

Steve Elliott:

You can't vote for yourself, so Stevie was forced to give 100% to somebody else.
