I've not been sitting around doing nothing, even though I scrapped the original game I was planning on doing. I'm short on time to really do a big game - which I'd like to do one day - so I came up with a little idea where you play a pixel who's died in an AAA game and been resurrected as a human so he can go to hell. Now he has to navigate his way through pixel hell so he can attempt to reach pixel heaven and hopefully get resurrected in another game. Yeah, crap story but I'm still thinking on it.

Anyway, I wanted a platform style game with no scrolling, 3 floors, like kung fu master, and to make it pretty tough but have the player just restart at the floor where they failed, so practice will eventually let them work through the whole game without being too frustrating. Still a lot to work out, and I'm certainly not sure I'll even make the deadline now I've rebooted, but I'm having a crack anyway.

Here's a couple of screens - yes I know the text looks terrible on these screens but it's placeholder and debug info - to give an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. The player control is all in with the variable jump heights and all that stuff, but it's adding more fiendish traps and tricky jumps for levels that still needs lots of work. I have the timers in the corner so there's a time trial element to each level, as well as just getting through it, so I'll probably have the best times for each level stored and stuff like that.

I will likely be entering the competition - the one button concept gave me an idea and I have a game which is close to being a minimum viable product. Just got the tile system working tonight which got the frame rate way down, and I may even include two different control systems! No further spoilers yet, though...

Unfortunately, I was short of time, but I'll finish it tomorrow. I feel like a failure  :-[
(Edited: I misread the date for submission, sorry  :D)

Good innings today! Only a few small tasks left on the task list to take this to a completed product... and then a lot of work after that :D

OMG, love the look of this. Missed opportunity if you don't make it banana man, though. Not sure if you could get away with that .....
