I am not saying "no" to it - but cannot guarantee to say "yes" once it starts. New project at work is starting slowly so I cannot estimate how much "brain time" is left in the evenings :)

Just what this place needs after recent craziness!

Good luck to all, I'm still too busy for a proper stab at a comp, but looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Seeing if there is any interest but might do one and see how it goes ;D

Not thought of a theme but I think we should ease into another year of game comps.

How about getting together a list of maybe 5-10 classic games from several platforms and the games we write need to incorporate at least one element from each of them. Sounds a bit of an odd concept but let me just try an example:

Vic 20 five classic games.
Arcadia, Wacky Waiters, Destroyer, Bongo and Asteroids.

I've literally just pulled those names from memory or the start of my Vic 20 tapes collection that I'm accumulating on my shelf.

Wacky waiters is a right/left moving game across several elevators to serve diners with their meals and also collect tips.
Arcadia is a straight top down shooter with weird alien patterns which also happens to be very hard.
Destroyer (which I've got an 80% remake done from already that I keep jumping in and out of) is a game where you're a battle ships shooting both submarines in the ocean and planes above you.
Bongo is a game where you navigated screens with a huge main char collecting keys and stuff - going from memory here but the main thing about it was the amazing graphics for the machine.
Asteroids is a half basic pretty naff clone of the arcade game.

So I'd be making a game about exploring an underwater submarine (Destroyer) that had multiple levels connected by ladders (Bongo). I need to shoot the falling debris and the enemy crew (Asteroids and Arcadia) while also collecting treasure by navigating the elevators on board (Wacky Waiters).

I'm winging it here but you get the idea?

Maybe do not limit to "ancient" games - not everybody here played them nor even knows them. To have them play all these games first... dunno.

So maybe something a bit more "generic" - or which has examples in "todays games".

@Xerra, nice idea but could turn out a little complex to mash together properly.

I think I'll keep the 1st comp of the year pretty straight forward and come up with a concept either tonight or tomorrow.

Absolutely not just ancient games, Derron. Any games can be used. I just used Vic 20 as an example because I've got a few of the old classics sitting on my desk, and I'm writing a game for an actual Vic at the moment.

Let's see what Qube comes up with. And hopefully get a lot more entrants this time round. I know it's hard to actually complete a game but a lot of people do have the time at present, so who knows.

Just a suggestion, what about carnival games or arcade type ones (Like, say, coin pusher, grab machines, XO bandits etc etc)

I'm just thinking how I'll be next to the seaside next week and no arcades will be open so I wont be able to run about like a complete child! :D lol Cos I would of been in'em!!! :P
