Seems that old Blitzmax users are not using SyntaxBomb...

Well I'm another ex blitzmax.com user who's been lurking - since until now I've had no reason to post.  Really glad this site exists - thanks to Qube for making it possible.

I don't think the forum looks too dated and I don't like the super modern trend of having everything look so minimal on a white background.

Sorry, I lost you when you said that this forum looks more dated than the old BMAX forum.  ;D

I disagree. I think the forums here are much better than the old blitz basic site.

Agree with all of that...Besides, when coding I really don't want a bright white background, or a coding website that does - too hard on the eyes!  :)

And at SyntaxBomb you have the incentive to code and win cash for entering the coding competitions!

I don't normally jump to the end of a thread to reply to a comment made which is 'up' a bit - I disagree with mob's sentiment.

I like the forum in its present state - my 10p, as I'm sure big10p would agree with.

I think the world is in a different place (obviously some would say...) to when I first re-visited coding in my late twenties after a decade long hiatus of discovering women and things.

I still marvel at what can be achieved with (relatively) little effort. Thing is, what I construe as relatively little effort, some - these days may think - thats defo in the too much like hard work box.

I like this forum in its present state  8)

Hello everyone.  I'm here now.
I wasn't aware the old places were taken down until I went to check the command docs here:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/bmdocs/docs.php
..and found the whole place was torpedoed, and the MonkeyX site too.

FWIW, I like the forum look here just fine.  I'm more a results than looks kind of person though.

I hope the people here will be able to answer some of the questions I still have about things I run into when doing my BlitzMax stuff.  I liked the official forums, because you were definitely getting the full force of everybody on there seeing it.  Not much incentive for BRL to fix things that aren't even posted on their official webpage after all.

Anyway, I think it's pretty lame to take down the support pages for the languages I paid for.  I guess I get the Blitz one, as I bought that years ago.  But Monkey 1?  I don't see the point of taking down support for a working product so you can focus on working on a product that does not work yet.  And all those users?  All those potential future customers?  Not even a redirect to the Monkey 2 page as of today...

You know, that would have made a lot more sense.
Something like "Hey guys! Just a heads up, at the end of the month all of the forums will be redirected to the Monkey two site." would have been a lot better.

Welcome Ian.

Now, now Ian, that would be common sense...Sadly a quality Mark doesn't possess   ;D

yep... mark has a strange idea about "a community" .. just kicked off all users.
this mean just a thing for me... never ever use again "indie" languages.

..something along this line..but i would say, never ever use again 1 man show product..i went trough few and all ended up same..busted..

MikeHart

Not all one man languages are run the same. I know some who are still kicking even after 10 years and more.

Partly why I'm using an industry standard language in C++, so I could move my code to another engine if the worst happened.

I'm running in circles trying to find something that just works like BlitzMax but fixes the few problems I still have with that...and will export to Android and HTML-5.
Basically I want it to be BlitzMax 3+.  heheh

Hi Ian,

what problems do you have with Blitzmax (or NG) ?

- Got 01100011 problems, but the bit ain't 00000001

Hi Ian...i would recommend extremely B4J as full, complete replacement for bmx. Its cross platform and runs very very fast...beautiful community there and language has integrated gui designer..its just brilliant..

LamptonWorm

Hi all, I'm also from the old blitzmax forum, thanks for continuing to support. Cheers!

Krischan

I miss the old layout too. One of the most cleanest layouts I've ever seen.

And when I read the topic title I had to inevitably think of this scene...

But I see that many old fellows are still alive here :D
Kind regards
