Is BlitzMaxNG future-proof enough to create sellable applications?

Regarding AGK: Nobody knows how long TGC can keep their business up. I predict they will be next who drop the ball. They are not Apple Silikon ready and do not support Metal. I doubt they ever will do so. Next I predict Godot will slow down big time as Juan already mentioned financial problems after 4.0. Metal is not on their list. 4.0 doesn't even come with OpenGLES, they will run out of time and money to implement the needed changes to support Metal on MacOS and IOS.

Interesting information. Do you by any luck have some sources for it so I can read about it indepth?

I assume "Juan" (main dev) is a bit ... self-centered (it always read a bit as if he is the center of godot and nothing would be possible without him - might be true for the 3d part he currently does). Godot itself tried too early to be "funded" compared to "voluntaries" (think Blender did it a different way -- and development pace looks way more prolific there).

I have written a piece of software for the mac

I just used pk installer and stuck it on my own website

But you could do the same and tie the file to your paypal etc.....

So when they click they can buy it

I had no trouble when the files installed

It worked from the path I setup in the installer apo and worked without any security issues.

Yes its really me :)

Regarding OpenGL in 4.0, OpengLES 3.1 instead of 2.0 which if I am not mistaken, could take IOS out of the game, because some extensions are not supported in IOS.

Regarding funding after 4.0

The godotengine-blog-article was known to me ... I did not read it (that time) as "IOS could be taken out of the game" - apple docs mentioned support of gles 1 to 3 but yeah. Apple is keeping older hardware from upgrades anyways, so time will be "helping" to have only compatible mac os hardware using it (maybe a small percentage of the apple users then is using the old stuff ... depends on what kind of target audience you have).

The funding twitter posts ... I am not sure about it. As said that Juan always sounds a bit ... peeking too often at funding situations. Might be because of his life situation (South America). Also the often "compared with" Blender is not just around for a few years like Blender - it is there for _many_ years now, so they built and built their funding basement. For Godot this wont be the case so fast. No matter if there is governmental funding or not - it always needs some kind of "industry partner" for serious money - so companies either funding developers (so they get their feature coded) or funding general stuff (as part of "self-promotion" or whatever).
They "just" need to concentrate more on collaborative progress than relying on these "full funded" jobs (albeit I understand the increased interest in them). Some stuff they do "full time" is what others would do in their spare time. Anyways, vicious circle as usual (you need to do a lot to attract a lot - to be able to do a lot you need a lot money, to get a lot money you need a lot of people funding you).
Think you knew this all already... Cerberus X would not work when developed as "full time job" - as there would not be enough funding.

But yeah, let's  be optimistic and hope the best for Godot - to not have only Unreal and Unity (which btw bought/planned to buy Weta Studios) there.

Sure, nobody really knows what will happen in the future. And to each their own.

iWasAdam

yep. Agreed. I think (whatever backend you use) this is the time to look code bases, potentially simplify and consider how best to move for the future.
