I do not want to throw oil on the fire.  But I was wondering why the GNET stuff etc couldn't be hosted here as this site was already up and running. Was it even offered?

I would say if you have good content, why not offer it here instead of building a new?

The statment of 'we need a dedicated BlitzMax/3d site' I can't really understand, for all that stuff is here really, just 1 scroll+click away from the main page isn't it?

No laws or etiquette of course to prevent anyone setting up if they like to do this. No North Korea,  :)  but I was just getting comfy here after the whole BRL community massacre.  ;)

Ah well, to each their own I guess..

A Dedicated website is concentrating on blitz.. its far more significant than a section in a general programming forum..

Having a Home respects the language instead of having a subsection in a general forum..
you cant expect seriousness and a good future when you don't have a dedicated site.

Gee whizzy, shall I just close this place down now then? :P
Mac Studio M1 Max ( 10 core CPU - 24 core GPU ), 32GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD.
Beelink SER7 Mini Gaming PC, Ryzen 7 7840HS 8-Core 16-Thread 5.1GHz Processor, 32GB DDR5 RAM 1T PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Microsoft Surface Pro 11 ( Snapdragon® X Elite ), 16GB RAM, 512GB SDD.
ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM OLED 240Hz.

Until the next time.

I disagree that splitting up the overall dev community even further is a good approach.
People would just get lost in all their little specialized bubbles and most sites would remain in obscurity forever.
Noone would find new things unless actively looking for them.

I do however agree it makes sense to have an official site for an actively developed engine, where the devs interact with the userbase.
But for Blitz? BMX? Why?
There is no downside to doing it here, what matters is the active people you get into your section, just like it would on a specialized site.
A language is a tool, it doesn't need respect. It has no feelings. What it needs is active users and interaction so that it gets easier for new people to find info and get started and that there is an active place for users to show their projects and exchange ideas.

There is also the additional benefit of eventually reaching people who aren't primarily using the engine and potentially turning them into an active user.
Most of us already use several languages/engines (depending on the current project's needs) and I am sure I am not the only one not wanting to hop around between several tiny barely active forums every day.
I'd rather come to a site like this and get all my info and interaction in one place.
I have already discovered one engine I wouldn't have used otherwise here, just by random cross-pollination.

Side note: A specialized site with a tiny userbade also (in my opinion) has a higher chance of just being shut down when the owner switches to an other engine or otherwise loses interest. Losing all that info hurts.
As an example: it's near impossible to use NB for a commercial project now, because any stumbling block would crush you. All the thousands of pages of info from the old forums are just gone.

Also, having all the interaction in one place means it's more interaction overall and thus the site has a better chance of reaching new people. (word of mouth, Google rankings, mentions, links, etc). It all snowballs, even if slowly at first.

Question : If I had replied to HardCole's enquiry with the information supplied by RonTek, would I be guilty of promoting another site?
Question : When I get my Gnet server working, should I keep it hidden or post the URL here to advertise it to other users?
Fact : RonTek has provided a gnet lobby service and I am grateful for this and for him for posting the URL on this site. Otherwise I wouldn't know it existed.
Fact : Both sites are a resource for people with similar interests and are maintained by public spirited individuals who both have my gratitude.
Many thanks to qube and rontek, please don't let this become an issue. Have fun cps.

There are zero problems with promoting / linking to other sites, your site etc, let me make that 100% clear :) - Where I do have grumbles is when it starts to borderline on phishing for members and the like via multiple posts in a short space of time. I don't know of any forum that would allow such activity to continue be it intentional or not. To be also clear, RonTek and I have cleared the air about this whole shebang.

Post it here or course and anywhere else on the internet that's of use to users. Then when I've added GNet here there will be three known sites.
Mac Studio M1 Max ( 10 core CPU - 24 core GPU ), 32GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD.
Beelink SER7 Mini Gaming PC, Ryzen 7 7840HS 8-Core 16-Thread 5.1GHz Processor, 32GB DDR5 RAM 1T PCIe 4.0 SSD.
Microsoft Surface Pro 11 ( Snapdragon® X Elite ), 16GB RAM, 512GB SDD.

Until the next time.

i agree, we could even go further, even if some languages are too restrictive in the way(s) we can use them, some languages can be used with different programming (writing) styles.

Also, there are many concepts, methods, tips, related to making games, that we can discuss/share, even if we don't use the same programming language or programming style...

I couldn't agree more.. even though I respect RonTek's skill and dedication to the language, I think the BRL landscape is scattered enough already.

Hehehe.. Can I deduct from this you are planning to host GNET too?  :)

Many thanks to qube for clarification, onwards and upwards. I'll put my fiddling with PHP aside and try to complete my gnet lobby before you... little chance but it may provide the focus I need. Have fun cps.

I'm sure you will :) - I highly doubt I'lll have the time until after the current game comp ends.
