Hi,

Why?

BlitzPlus was released as open-source.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitz_BASIC#Open-source_release

Summary of the products of the Company:

BlitzMax ----------> BlitzMax NG (It is succeeding)
Monkey1 ---------> Cerberus X (It is succeeding)
Blitz3D -----------> Blitz3D NG (Failed with unknown reasons)
BlitzPlus ----------> ????? (No expert takes over)
Monkey2 ---------> ????? (?????)

This is only speculation.  That is guesswork!

Perhaps anything you can do in BlitzPlus, you can do in the other languages.

BlitzPlus is only 2D, and so is BlitzMax, Monkey1 and 2, and CerberusX.
Blitz3d is the only 3D capable language of the bunch, yet there are 2d commands in the language that support 2d development.   To get 3D in the other languages, you would have to add a module.
Prepare to be assimilated !  Resistance is futile!

Hi,

for me at least, it's hard to see the appeal of BlitzPlus.

Blitzmax is the more modern version of Blitz+, that is syntax vise similar enough so that old users should be comfortable. If one were to take the challenge of modifying Blitz+ source, then he/she would probably implement language features that Blitzmax already has, and that alone would be a massive undertaking. Blitz3D would be the more likely candidate, but alas there has been some misfortune with that.

Hello, bsisko and Henri,

Thanks for explaining to me. The reasons mentioned by both of you are the correct reasons. I was too stupid.

After reading both detailed posts, now I fully understand the situation of BlitzPlus.

Thanks again!

@round157: There is an add on for Plus and B3D called Hardwired.
It was being written by someone called Floppy on the old SoCoder site. The man made almost four dozen commands for the language but then he died in France.
I'd post a link since it is a good working add on for BB but I lost it.
If you find it then put the link on this site somewhere.

I will try to pay attention to this software. Thank you.

The problem with Blitz+ is that it's pure software rendering and not hardware rendering so any fancy alpha / scaling / rotation of sprites is going to be far slower than the GPU versions in Max, Monkey, etc. I don't see any genuine need for Blitz+ these days unless you're developing games for PC's that just don't support DirectX hardware acceleration? ( huge market )

I think I remember that's what Blitz+ was all about? :P

Until the next time.

Vanilla Blitz3D does also support Blitzplus style syntax, and I found Blitz3D syntactically easier to achieve stuff than BMax.

forget about hardwired, it is buggy and unfinished...

there is xors3d (almost finished, with a few bugs), blitzmax+minib3d, blitzmax+openb3d, blitzmax+bigbang (if Bobysait is still alive!)

what is missing in many others engines, imo, is the easiness with which you can draw on images / textures...

windman

@RemiD: Xors3d is not free though.
I'd use something free until the applications are fine tuned and then pay for the some better.

this attitude of not supporting (financially) regularly (monthly/yearly) is exactly why great coders like Bobysait gave up on distributing an alternative engine to Blitz3d, because we all need some money to pay for the essential things in our lives, and if somebody spends a lot of time making an engine, he can't spend it working at a regular job at the time...

But anyway, it is as it is...

plenatus

Yes thats true....
I would pay money for a Blitz3D like language/system with dx11/12 support.
A subscription could be the best way because if there are enough subscribers the further support is granted.
And it should be a -more then one person- dev team.

Derron

If you want to fund a "more than one person" team ... and talk about some kind of "full time job" then estimate at least $2500 for each person/month - and then you only get the enthusiasts with dreams, not the people doing the job because "it's their job". Else your funding should start at $3500+ each month.

To get such a funding / subscriber count you need to provide something - something which other languages/tools aready offer. Means to get people funding you, you will have to code a big bunch of stuff "in advance" - meaning at least payment for "living" of the team until the "funding stage". Figures are mid-4igits for a very small team of enthusiasts - per month.
So chances are pretty low to find such a project.

bye
Ron

Hardwired is full of bugs? Ok, I will forget it....

We all hope that a new development team will handle the Blitz3D project's future!
