first person camera

Ok I've never made a first person game before but started working on a first person dungeon crawler recently(like a crap version of Delver)
But my camera is a bit choppy with the movement.
I am currently using

Turnentity campiv,0,-mousexspeed(),0
Turnentity camera,mouseyspeed(),0,0

I have tried so many different variations but the movement is still choppy and not smooth

I'm sure other people have solved this problem before or have a good idea what I'm doing wrong

EDIT: I fixed it by using the camera turning code in the samples folder(Hi-Toro-Death Island)
But I still don't understand why it was choppy(so if somebody could explain it might help me solve other issues in future)

I'm playing around with that in one of my fp programs...perhaps try reducing mouse x&y speed to 1/10th   (  .1 ) or some other decimal..
