TGC have announced that they will be closing down their accounts system on the 10th February and as this is used to login to the TGC forums it also means that the forums will be closing which will result in a vast amount of information for AGK/DBP/FPSC being lost. There is probably something like 2 million posts on the forums and it will all be gone, all of the code snippets, tips and discussions all gone. Decades of understanding and learning of TGC products erased. This will not help the survival of AGK Studio at all so it looks like The Game Creators will have one product...Game Guru Max which is only capable of FPS games.

This is sad news indeed.

AppGameKit is probably the most successful product that TGC have ever released in terms of successful commercial games being developed and released on Steam, AppStore and Google Play Store. GGM is still under development and has had no games developed and successfully released as far as I'm aware. I'm struggling to understand why AGK which is a successful multiplatform development tool is being abandoned for a system that can only develop FPS games for Windows.

I'm hoping that TGC have a change of heart and keep the forums open even if they are read only.

Is there anyway to dump the entire forum?

Holy fuck balls!! :o They are great at coming up with ways to screw over the AGK community. First it was to lose Paul and thus AGK's development stopped. Then after severe lack of communication AGK was announced to be maintenance releases only to which even that has caused the death of Linux / HTML5, iOS compatibility and even struggling to keep Android fully working. This is only thanks to those who took the time to help out with it so far but as we all know, making something open source is often the death knell of many many software products.

Now they're shutting down the central hub and hoping everyone will bounce over to Discord? Well thanks TGC for continuing the shit dump on AGK users. I guess they want to save money and ditch the server or else there's no real reason to shut down the whole forum system.

Time and time again TGC have been using the outdated system of charge once and offer lifetime updates. Money always runs out after the initial success and thus the inevitable slow decline happens. Perpetual licensing is the only way to go these days so you get a constant stream of income for users who want to continue having the latest and greatest version for each consecutive 12 months. If they don't then they can still use the software forever. It's a win win for everyone.

Anyway, I'm not pissed off, you are :))

Though I should point out here that it sometimes does work, but I suspect that depends on if it is just one or two people who don't have to worry about money, or having to run a business.

Now in my opinion it was bound to happen with them having too many products on the go near enough at the same time, just as it did to BRL.

Bloody hell, that is bad news for AGK users. It's a good product and I've used it in the past.  :(

I agree, it has happened here and it happened to Mark Sibly with his computer languages. I believe Fred only works part time on Pure BASIC now because he used the free updates for life system too.

Indeed, bad news. Once they manage to get their Discord hacked and deleted, they will find out the hard way that relying on Discord is bad.
Or can you get a deleted server back now?
Last year it happened to a Love2D youtuber and there was no way for him to get his Discord server back up and running.

I just read what TGC said and it feels we're being kicked out, almost literally.

"Hi,

The forums themselves will be available as a historical resource, as there is over 15 years of posts and information contained within.

The upcoming change will mean that no new posts will be able to be made, but the GameGuruMAX and AppGameKit Discord servers will take over as the primary host of the respective communities."

A Discord user pointed out that to download attachments the user has to be logged in so the attachments on posts may not be available.

If you want a little webspace to plonk things into, then I'll nudge you a FTP account on one of my hosting malarkies, or maybe Qube can rustle a syntaxbomb.com one up since he's having a craic at building a mac one.

The latter maybe the better one since it'll keep them together, and maybe a nice little landing page to compliment them too, obviously under a sub-domain like: www.agk.syntaxbomb.com, that'll be tidy! :)

AGK Studio may be around and compatible with the next windows operating system so I would of thought it could be around and working for a while yet. I don't really understand what TGC are doing it seems they are tying to kill AGK when it is a very nice product. So you develop a language it takes a long time and when it is ready you bin it. Why not sell it or give it to someone who can take it forward if necessary and generally just maintain it.

This is unfortunate, with everything going on in the world you would think this is a good time to keep your customers.

It's not for me to say if this decision is right or wrong, I don't know their situation but I hope it doesn't affect their business.

I wish them the best of luck.

Dang, a lot of people use AGK around here, don't want to lose the info for that, that's for sure.
It's a thing that doe's when it don't..

EdzUp

AGK has had a hard time of late and this will only put another nail in the coffin

It's a shame they couldn't get a new developer on-board, it seems Paul was a very talented guy and they had nobody to do the work necessary to continue.
