Huge update list :o - Good to see continued development. Looking forward to testing it out as an excuse to continue my comp entry ;D
Wow Paul has been busy.
He should use some formatting and naming guidelines for his fixes - to better organize a changelog. Mixes IDE and engine stuff - mixes new features and fixes.
So having a quick glance it seems to be mostly fixes ... and some of them look as if they should have been obvious right on testing - which could mean they were introduced by other changes.
Glad for you guys enjoying huge changelogs :)
Hope some of the bugs you reported are fixed now so to see some more compo entries popping up.

Both AppGameKit Classic and Studio has a new version 2019.09.27 release:
https://www.thegamecreators.com/post/appgamekit-20190927-latest-version-released (https://www.thegamecreators.com/post/appgamekit-20190927-latest-version-released)

AGK has an impressive list of updates getting applied:
Quote
Fixed expansion file commands causing a crash on Android 9 and above
Fixed SnapChat commands not working on Android
Updated Android export dialog to remove unsupported versions of Android from the drop down list
Fixed SnapChat commands not working in exported iOS apps
Fixed deleting and re-creating lots of objects sometimes causing the new objects to retain the properties of an old object, causing flickering or corruption
Fixed exported iOS apps not being signed correctly
Fixed Android export not working on Mac and Linux
Hmmm, this level of portability is along the lines I was hoping to achieve with Monkey (Then... Monkey X) a few years back.
The portability took too much effort with the numerous Android releases you seemed to have to wrap your head around. I imagine thats still the case - unless you take the decision - sod it, my game will only support the latest and greatest.
Maybe 2020 will be my year for cutting my teeth on a coding engine for the next decade ;D

Cool beans, will update when I can frackin get more than 5 minutes to spare. I've never known this time of year to be so busy ( work wise ). I'm definitely gonna have to say to customers "frack off, I'm not working for the next 2 weeks" or else I'll not be able to enjoy Christmas... Sorry for the mini rant ;D - So, AGK Studio has an update \o/
Yay! They've finally managed to fixe the "Cannot open .AGK from file explorer in Windows" thing! This will make it so much more intuitive to use over AGK2.
@Qube: Yep, busy days here too! Seems like there's a shift in workload / time of year. - BTW: Did they fix your Mac-mouse issue already? (haven't been paying attention for a while)
Virtual Buttons/Joysticks vs SetViewOffset didn'y make the official list for 2019.11.27/28 but its apparently been fixed, as well.
That would be a great plus for exporting to Apple's machines. 8)

Yup, this time of year is nuts! - Not sure about the Mac mouse issue as I've not looked at the latest version or even done any game related stuff in weeks :(

QuoteAdded commands to get the state of the fourth and fifth mouse buttons on Windows if available
I make Brucey to add support for mouse button 4 and 5 in NG ... and now AGK has it in too.
Maybe I should write down some more stuff they could come up with :)
Nice to see them continuing to support classic.

Yep, with HTML5 export. :)
Yes it's good Classic is still being supported I intend to keep using it for the foreseeable future as it does what I want . If they stop supporting it I'll upgrade to Studio at some point or if I get a computer that supports vulkan I'll make the switch. Whichever comes first . Should be looking at a new computer by the summer and it will support vulkan so that's the time frame I'm looking at . Have a nice day .

Looks like a good update...But do Apple not realize they have to allow people to run software on their computers? ::)
Quote
Note: Apple have made this release very difficult for us as they have introduced new notarization requirements that mean we can no longer support Android export in the Mac version.

But Apple don't make that much software, if developers 'had enough' and abandoned the OS then they would be in real trouble. They really should be encouraging and helping software developers and not continually throwing a spanner in the works with their changes. That's the only way they will ever defeat Windows (and lower their prices) but no they want to be 'exclusive'.

Apple are not a software company. They are a hardware manufacture, or that's what they keep telling everyone.

Exactly, you get a few pieces of software that come with MacOS, but they can't call themselves a software company - all the more reason to make it a good platform to develop for...But are they even that? A hardware manufacturer, they tend to buy-in parts from other companies. They just 'package' everything (hardware and OS) and people like the experience of using their product. Mostly.

AGK are really pushing the Studio Version and will support it far more than the standard version, so if you have the standard version it might be worth taking the plunge when it's on offer.
Indeed.I have both but atm i use more studio. But without the scene-editor functionality.
And vulkan is massive faster i think.

Nothing yet apart from the usual wish list stuff which some think it'll go into the current version and others think there will be a version 2.
Personally I think it's way too early to go to v2, especially if they are going to charge for it. Native compiler then take my money but any 2D / 3D GUI scene setup stuff then nah, not interested in it heading into Unity / Unreal / GoDot type of IDE.

I guess that is where the market is. IF you want to be successful, you need a 3d editor.
Yeah will be interesting to see where they take it.

I wouldn't mind one being added but my hesitance with AGK gaining one would be a half finished product to please the "Yay! we've got one, now can we have x,y,z" vocal crowd.
Quoteinitialize the engine they want to use at the beginning of the code like Init(OpenGL)/Init(Vulcan)
They already have that; #renderer "Advanced" or #renderer "Basic" (With the studio version only)
I think the plan is to fade out classic eventually. Maintaining two products does not make sense.
I thought vulcan was a necessity as platforms were phasing out OpenGL? Is that not a correct assumption?
True that Blink! Didn't know that the older renderer was available in the Studio. My bad. I see it was introduced with the 2019.08.05 version. Did not keep myself up to date on the Studio side of things since I'm still using the Classic. It was a good move on TGC part and I was thinking about buying Studio recently but I still read about issues with Studio being much slower than AGK Classic when it comes to sprite rendering.

Lol I'm still using classic from 2018 :)) Perhaps time to download the latest Studio version and give it a whirl now it looks like a good chunk of bugs have been fixed.
I wonder if the sprite rendering speed got any better in this studio release compared to classic. If anybody could do a quick speed test would be great.

Qube, it would be great if you could do a quick sprite rendering speed comparison between this version of studio and your 2008 build classic.
Well for me OpenGL is quite a bit faster than Vulkan on the version of AGK I have (17 December 2019). Classic I uninstalled some time ago. Maybe the developers have got to grips better on Vulkan now, so it will be interesting to see.
studio now wont run for me on Catalina...

I did and the 2018-07-12 AGK2 Classic is still faster and smoother, grr.
I've updated my test app to easily toggle between VSync on/off, Swap() or Sync() draw modes, deltatime on / off and inc / dec number of balls. Will post compiled and source code tomorrow for those who want to test :)

Well I tried to put in a shortcut but this doesn't seem possible . Not to worry it's not a big deal.

As a little tip, nobody cares about every little step you take every day.
There are soap operas for that. :'(
I apologize coder9 I will wind my neck in .
Nevertheless, glad you got the full product, it's a great language for some indie coding :D
Yeah, I was never a big TGC fan back in the day... Not so much the syntax of the language, but the naming of commands just seemed massive, felt like Jessica Fletcher on her typewriter! :D
choon = ObjectsInTheRearViewMirrorAlwaysSeemCloserThenTheyAre(meatLoaf)
I think they have toned that down, or seemed to have anyway as, with AGK, when playing, I do seem to do more doings then doing the doings!

This!! :D Mate this is *exactly* how I feel about wordy languages with massive command names, you feel as if you're writing a damn novel!! Rather than coding, the name is in the title lol.
AGK is still like that, but no language is perfect...Apparently they did think to rename commands at one point but didn't. I guess it was too much work to convert all those commands, much easier if you're starting from scratch.
Quote. wordy languages with massive command names,.....
Beauty of it is though, when you don't have the time to really dig into a language, the auto population of command names in the IDE helps you realise all the associated cmds without having to dig into the help. And these days, chances of me really getting my head around another language is very slim. So, AGK may just be my last coding tool - certainly for the foreseeable future. :o
Of course, I may dip into Cerberus on occasion to, with the occasional slice of B3D.....
Some pretty steep discounts over on steam now
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=appgamekit
Yes AGK Studio for £31.59 a real good buy. Should make someone very happy.
I am often tempted to buy AGK when it's discounted during a Steam Sale but get put off by the bewildering number of options/versions and their wildly differing prices - so always end up walking away empty handed...
@Chalky I bought AGK studio in their last sale for the same price of 31.59 and found it really good . What are you using now? At this price I think it's a good buy but not at 78.99 or whatever they usually charge on steam. Have a nice day.

Got to say that it's a very poor update considering it's been four months since the last update. No new features, a couple of bug fixes and just updated libraries. Seems to me that it's just a maintenance release which they'd have to do anyway for their driving apps in the App Store / Google Play Store.
Would've love to know what's really happening with AGK as personally I feel development has slowed right down since all the fanfare of having Vulkan.
Yes. It's really a maintenance update. As far as I know the team's main focus is on GameGuru Max at the moment and as soon as it reaches a certain level of maturity, AppGameKit development will get back to it's usual faster pace.

That's what people think but when it's been brought up on the AGK forums it was said by TGC that Paul works on AGK and not GameGuru. Unless that's changed of course as it would explain quite a lot. More transparency from TGC would be good though.

Hi coder9 do you think they made a mistake with there pricing ? just looked and on steam studio is £19.74 for Halloween. Excellent price .
Current AGK studio price 23.69 and classic just under a tenner. I have seen it lower but It is worth every penny , to me anyway . I have tried a few iterations of BASIC and the one I like best is AGK Studio current version.
Also I will add my second choice would be Blitz3D and I think third PureBasic.
I think PureBasic is 80 or 90 euros . Free updates though. V6 is coming soon and I will evaluate it using their free copy and if I like it I'll buy it.
