Title: 3d object animation
Post by: Pfaber11 on June 06, 2021, 11:46:40
I have made an insect as a 3d model and was wanting to animate it. To my surprise I find I need some additional software to do this . Looked at a few alternatives and not found what I was looking for . I've tried blender and don't really like it just seems too complicated . Any recommendations would be nice . Thanks for reading .

Give blender a few more weeks.  It has a nice animation system.  Also, there is a MIT site where you can download for free .bvh files that contain poses and animation patterns for many creatures besides humans.  Unfortunately, I don't remember the site off-hand nor do I have the time to look up the site at the moment.

Yes decided to give blender another shot . nearly there I think. looked at quite a few of these types of programs and did a full circle . intend to have a small animation ready in a day or two and we'll see what we see . I think blender is the way to go anyway as it's kind of the industry standard and will be worth getting to grips with.

I have figured out how to make my animation in Blender. I then export my .blend file as an .obj file . When I go into my files where I have stored it i have about 20 .mtl and .obj files . so this is where I'm at right now . Not sure how to play the animation in my app. am I ok to use .obj files or do I need to use something else. Any advice now would be appreciated . Does anybody know if blender can produce a uv map which I can use in my paint program a bmp or png file . If I can get this down I can get done with wings3d and lithunwrap. Thanks for reading.

OBJ is a static 3d file format. It doesn't support animation. Read the manual of AGK to see which animated  3d file formats it supports. I think it should support .X maybe .MD2 . If Blender doesn't let you export to .X right away, looking the settings if there is a plug-in you can activate. If there isn't one, search the internet for them. They do exist.

Good afternoon I have the animation working fine now and am exporting the model as a .dae Collada file . But I find I cannot apply a texture or change it's color . I'm including a few lines of code so you can see the problem. If I use loadobjectwithchildren It will not apply the texture.

Code: [Select]
texture25=loadimage("Cube.png")
  Loadobjectwithchildren(18,"cuberotate.dae")

  //loadobject(18,"cuberotate.dae")
  setobjectimage(18,texture25,1)
  setobjectcolor(18,10,10,250,180)

I've tried different file types and I don't think that's the problem.

No noticeable difference. But I bet you're correct and will be using 0 rather than 1 in the future .
