The Next is very capable compared to the old ZX Spectrum.  It can display 256 colours on-screen, has a 28mhz processor (the original was 3.5mhz) hardware sprites, hardware scrolling and 9 channel sound.  The Next is about taking advantage of that hardware in new software, not just using old software.  The ZX Spectrum and C64 era are where computing started for me, so it's important I have those machines.

As for your Amiga, Dawlane is correct, you better take a look inside to look for damage and be prepared to replace a possible leaking battery or replace capacitors and so on.  Where as the Next is a brand new computer with components that are still in production today.
