Yeah, but you have an appropriate replicated keyboard because 80's computer keyboards are totally different to today's keyboards.  So you need horrible virtual keyboards to pop-up with emulators - rather than just typing.  Plus it comes with BASIC and games for the true retro/nostalgia experience.

In all honesty this looks like a C64 in a Vic 20 case. There's quite a few vic 20 games going to be built in but then the package does also contain a lot for the C64, which it also boots into. They're basically using the same components, changing the boot order, switching out a few of the games so there's more for the Vic 20 this time and then basically reskinning the main computer and joystick.

I still don't care. Still having one

Yeah I see them trying to make some more cash over Christmas, to go for an Amiga reboot at a later date (if) they make enough money through the C64 and Vic 20 re-boots, which would need a more expensive unit.

Just because the Vic-20 was my 1st computer and it holds a special place in my heart it doesn't mean I want to buy a cheap imitation replica

God damn it!! - I was looking on Amazon to see how much they were ( out of curiosity ) and accidentally pre-ordered but then I couldn't find the cancel button. Oh well I guess I'll just have to have one




I've been toying with getting The C64 ( as it does Vic20 too ) but having Vic20 & C64 in a retro Vic20 case is a no brainer

I knew you'd be tempted. The people who were Vic 20 owners as teenagers know just how special that computer was. I loved my C64 and my Amiga days were fantastic but the Vic was my first love. I even owned a C16 for a short time but can't remember what happened to it for the life of me. Same with my old BBC Micro. I shouldn't have moved house so much back in those days.

Yeah, I checked the picture on your pre-order and the cancel button definitely doesn't exist. You'll just have to put up with having the thing in your house.....

Ahh, umm, well it said cancel items but I only accidentally added one item so didn't think items was the right thing

I had the Vic-20 for my tenth birthday and I still remember it vividly. Looking forward to playing Race, Hoppit, Type a Tune & Blitz ( the games that came in the box ) and also playing Space Snake on a Vic-20 again \o/

I've still got to code me the Vic 20 game i've been promising myself for years. I've got all the tools now with the dev environment on my stick PC. Just general slackness. Maybe you should make the next competition actually be to create a game that will run on a retro computer. That'll get me motivated :-)

I stand with Xerra in believing that the ViC-20 is just a repackaged TheC64 with a few minor twists.  Nevertheless I still want one (TheC64 that is).
I stand with Steve Elliott in wanting the Amiga to be rebooted. (with all Commodore modes, 64, 128, +4, C16, V20, and yeah the original PET)  Is it possible  (both technically and  markedly)  Is there an human engineer capable of handling such a project.
Those of you who are ordering the THE64 from Amazon.  Do you live outside the U.S. I've been searching for the computer on Amazon for the last 2 years and can only find the mini version (which isn't bad, but I want the full size keyboard)  The full size keyboard is only sold in Europe.

I still have a spare mini 64 as I bought myself one when they came out and my dear old mother got me one for Xmas that year as she thought I might not have been aware of it and not bought one

She really should know better, ha ha.

As it's still shrink-wrapped I'm not sure if I should keep it as a collectors item in a few decades or just pass/sell it on.

Keep it. At some point the company that makes them will cease trading and if there are not many that have been produced, then they will be worth a few quid in 30 years. That's if you live that long.

I loved my "VC-20 Volkscomputer" (how it was called only in Germany ). I still own it, together with the other Commodores in the basement. I still remember that the RAM was very limited, the Datasette was awful slow, the VC-20 went hot and even broke a few months later, I've got it repaired by some students in a backyard computer shop and finally it has been replaced after one year by a C64. In the meantime, in the meantime the casing colour has changed from white to yellow but it still looks the same as I left it behind.

In retrospect I'm glad that I didn't start with the C64 right away, because on the VC-20 there was not much I could do except programming, and I still do that today.

I recently scanned old photos from my dad's collection and guess what I found? What about you? Do you have pics with you and your first computer?
